With one having (shockingly!) only watched the movie while the other has g̶r̶o̶w̶n̶ ̶u̶p̶ ̶w̶i̶t̶h̶ read the book as well, we discuss our impressions of this story of a charming, bookish little girl: the aesthetics and politics of its translation from print to screen (and from England to America); Roald Dahl's usage of tropes; and the endearing strangeness of children's fiction.
