I've recently been spending an increasing amount of time explaining the differences between what a doula does and what a midwife. Lots of people think they are the same thing when they most certainly are not. In this episode I'll give you brief overviews of what doulas, midwives, and birthkeepers do to help clear up the confusion surrounding this birth terms.
This is a great podcast to listen to if you're planning your first birth experience, or if you're a friend or family member to someone planning to give birth without modern day pain killers and other medications. Doing so may seem odd to you because who in their right mind would want to feel all of that pain, right?
The fact is that we've learned a lot about birth over the past century that helps us understand why bringing humans into the world while the mother is using medications may not be the best idea humans have ever had. I do not go into full detail about what doulas, midwives, and birthkeepers do. I simply give you the highlights to help you better understand their differences.
