In this episode, Troy speaks with Amber White and Val Bader of North Branch Area Schools in Michigan. Val is a veteran teacher of more than 20 years currently teaching 7th grade English, and Amber is a curriculum and instruction coordinator, an author, and is involved with the Saginaw Bay Writing Project (an arm of the National Writing Project) and the Michigan Reading Association
Amber, Val, and Troy have an insightful conversation around the value of giving students choice, time, and space to authentically grow their writing abilities, and the importance of giving technology a supporting role in the ELA classroom.
Val is a long-time user of the Writable program, and speaks to how it helps her power both her own feedback and peer feedback in writing assignments. She focuses on paired writing to build community and peer support, in which Writable also plays a supporting role. She uses Writable for differentiation of instruction in her classroom as well.
