Episode Synopsis

When God wants to accomplish a work, he always prepares a man or a woman and positions them for his purpose. Yet many times, life changing extraordinary events will take place in what looks like an ordinary moment. This is the story of Nehemiah who was a cupbearer for the king. When he learned of the news that the walls of Jerusalem were completely destroyed, he had a choice to make: ignore or inquire. The tension in the story is not that the walls were broken down, it’s that the people who were already living there were indifferent. There is a hidden danger of indifference which means uninterested, apathetic, and unconcerned for what’s most important. There is a similar tension in our world today. It’s not that we can’t identify brokenness in our world, but it’s that many people are indifferent to do anything about it. Nehemiah’s response was to pray and then act. Prayer is a call to action not a last resort. Prayer with participation leads to God’s power. What moves you with compassion? What drives you to your knees? What causes you to pray, “Lord, send me?” The story of Nehemiah is the story of how each of us can be a part of God’s work of rebuilding brokenness in our world and resisting the hidden danger of indifference.
