Maika Monroe plays a captivating role. Her performance is essential to getting us to accept the idea. Harker is given a tense, twitchy appearance by the actress. When our heroine is around, we don't feel comfortable; instead, we get just as scared as she does. Cage walks a high wire on his end. There aren't many performers that are as prepared to take total chances as he is. Cage's portrayal of the role is distinct from that of any other psycho in film, and his unshakable dedication makes him a menacing figure. With a chilly, harsh visual aesthetic, director Perkins and cinematographer Andres Arochi give every scene a sense of impending doom. There's no cop-out in Longlegs the picture. The audience is supposed to be rattled.
