Why the hype with East Asia?

It seems that these days East Asian culture specifically Japanese and Korean culture has made its way to mainstream society. From media, food, fashion, skin care, makeup, etc people outside of those ethnic and cultural groups have begun partaking in those cultures to an almost unhealthy degree that becomes fetishization. In this podcast, I want to break down the roots of this obsession with these cultures and the historical background and political implications of cultural fetishization that erases the struggle between dominant culture associated with the hegemonic group and the subculture that forms as a counterhegemonic movement to the dominant culture. Essentially, I want to address the question ‘why the hype with Japanese and Korean culture’ and what does consequences does this hype ensue?
