Voices from our Past on WLR

Six famous individuals, each with strong Waterford links, are profiled in a new radio series. Entitled Voices From our Pasts, the series features the lives of Annie Brophy, Molly Keane, Tom Clancy, Donal Foley, Tyrone Power and Frank Patterson. The series is produced and edited by Waterford documentary-maker RoseAnn Foley and presented by her sister, the writer Catherine Foley with assistance from Owen Corrigan. Using previously unheard recordings with individuals such as Maeve Binchy, Julian Walton, Sally Phipps, Robbie O’Connell, Kevin O’Carroll, Michael Foley, Blawneen Clancy and former county librarian Donal Brady, the programs will revisit the lives of six famous people – the photographer Annie Brophy, the Anglo-Irish writer Molly Keane, the traditional singer and actor Tom Clancy, the journalist and satirist Donal Foley, the Hollywood actor and heart-throb Tyrone Power and the golden-voiced tenor Frank Patterson. All six programs were made with funding from the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland with the Television Licence Fee. Friends, relations and commentators look back at the times that shaped these celebrated individuals. They recall the times and the vicissitudes of the last century that helped to create them, and celebrate their achievements. They discuss the events that shaped their lives and shed light on the different directions their lives took. In Voices from Our Past, Catherine Foley chronicles the achievements and the individual legacies of these Waterford notables. The series recalls a time that is gone. Each half-hour documentary looks back at six Munster people, all celebrated and revered in the Waterford region, and documents how and why these people stood out from the crowd in their own chosen careers. Who were these people that made such an impression on Waterford people?
