The Cicadas are here and they have a tough journey to get to the top of the trees so they can reach their ultimate goal - to find a mate. Temperatures around the country are expected to reach the high 70s-to-high 80s this week, which should bring out the pesky insects in droves.
The DC area gets a suffragist memorial called Turning Point located at Occoquan Regional Park in Lorton,Virginia. It is the first and only national memorial dedicated to telling the complete story of the women’s suffrage movement in America, honoring the 5 million women of every state, creed, and race who for the right to vote for more than 70 years.
Wine making is happening in space, a group of California winemakers has launched a supply of grape juice into space to determine whether it will ferment into wine without the benefit of gravity. The grape juice, from Lodi's Michael David Winery, was sent to the International Space Station via an unmanned vessel back in February after the company's Jeff Farthing submitted a request to conduct the experiment.
The Capitals 2021 Playoffs have Panda-monium. There is a limited-edition merchandise featuring the National Zoo’s giant panda cub Xiao Qi Ji and hockey sticks in honor of the Capitals Stanley Cup Playoff Run. T-shirts, hats and masks are available in the collection.
Wizards come back to DC tomorrow for another playoff game against the Pacers and they fell to the Celtics last night in Boston. Winner of Thursday’s game plays the number 1 seed - 76ers in Philly.
The Marine Corps Marathon Organization announced that the 2021 Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) Weekend will be held live and in-person this October 29 – 31 in Arlington, Virginia and the nation’s capital. The 2021 MCM Weekend includes the live 46th MCM, MCM50K and MCM10K on Sunday, October 31, with all three events being offered as virtual options as well between October 1 and November 11.
