Listen "Coaching or Therapy? How Do We Know?"
Episode Synopsis
The most common question I'm asked when training coaches, is how do I know not to cross the line from coaching into therapy? In this episode, I share a few tips to help clarify when a coach should acknowledge that something has come up in the conversation that may require the help of a licensed therapist and how to address it.
Coaching and therapy share a very similar method for working with clients. Motivational Interviewing, used by Psychologists closely resembles Coaching. The therapist deals with the past and what has led to this person feeling the way they do. The coach works with the client on where they are today and how to move forward with their goals.
There is a fine line between coaching and therapy. A trained coach knows when it's time, in the coaching relationship, to recommend their client get some help.
