Andie came onto the show to speak about work she is doing with the Dallas Cowboys practice field to help keep the living soil system working at 100%. She works with the soil's biology to help us all grow healthy and abundant crops and gardens. Soil Work Description
Andie is a soil biologist on a mission to help others restore life and functionality to their soils. Equipped with her microscope and the power of observation, she examines the intersection of a soil's biological, chemical, and physical properties to inform restoration efforts through her business, Rhizos LLC*.
*rhizo- is the root word for "root" and is pronounced "rise-oh."
Educational Background
Andie has studied soil microbiology for over 12 years since she was a student at Texas A&M University, where she studied agricultural microbiology and
bioremediation in the Bioenvironmental Sciences program. She is a certified lab technician through Dr. Elaine Ingham's Soil Food Web.
Professional Background
Unafraid to take a less conventional route, Andie remains true to her values and follows her interests with professional experience in vermicomposting, aquaponic cultivation, plant science research, microscopy, and science communication.
Inspiration/Perspective
Andie is thoughtful about the interconnected nature we have as stewards of our landscapes and wakes every day inspired by the resilience and willingness of
individuals to develop meaningful relationships with the soils, plants, and the greater environment on which we depend.
