Day 295 of the Holy Bible One Year CHALLENGE. We dive into prophecies concerning Moab and Ammon, neighbors of Israel. Chapter 48 is all about Moab. Jeremiah announces its impending doom at the hands of Babylon. Despite Moab's pride and its trust in its fortresses, the nation will be devastated, and its people will wail. Yet, there's a glimmer of hope as God promises to eventually restore Moab's fortunes. The start of Chapter 49 focuses on the Ammonites. They're called out for seizing Israel's land, but just like with Moab, Babylon's going to give them a hard time. Yet again, amid the doom and gloom, God promises a future restoration for Ammon. In 2 Timothy 1, Paul starts off with some warm vibes, expressing his longing to see Timothy and reminiscing about Timothy's sincere faith, which he first saw in his grandma Lois and mom Eunice. Paul then reminds him to fan the flame of the spiritual gift God gave him and not to be ashamed of the testimony about the Lord. Paul emphasizes the power, love, and self-discipline God offers, rather than a spirit of fear. He also mentions some friends (and not-so-friends) in passing, giving us a bit of a peek into early Christian social dynamics.
