MMJ is an open-access peer-review journal started in 2014 by medical students at the University of Manchester. In our podcast series, we welcome a range of engaging speakers to discuss topical medical themes and current issues in the field. In today’s episode, we discuss the ins and outs of the academic foundation programme. Here to inform us more about life as an AFP doctor and tips for applying, we are delighted to welcome Dr Ashley Stokes. Ashley is an academic Foundation programme year 1 at East Lancashire Trust. He studied medicine and a masters of research in cardiovascular health and disease at the University of Manchester. His research interests include intervention cardiology and intensive medicine. He was also a previous committee member of the MMJ.
