Episode Synopsis

Welcome to another episode of Something came from Baltimore and I am your host, Tom Gouker.  There have been a lot of complains that the Smooth Jazz sound has been kind of played out, maybe even has run its course.  In our search for great music, SOMETHING came from Baltimore had to travel all the way to Finland to check out Njet Njet 9.
Njet Njet 9 is a mini big band that elevates Smooth Jazz with their nostalgia for the 70/80 pop and soul records.  They  groove with a retro vibe, and it sounds comfortable and familiar but with imagination.  They got horns ya and it sounds great.
The band leader Ville Kyttälä puts it "Njet Njet 9's music sounds like Zappa and Zawinul are playing tennis with Massive Attack at a Swedish summer cottage".
This is Njet Njet 9's 3rd recording and it is titled, "3" and it can be found on the Eclipse Music label.  It is possible that the American Radio Stations will not pick up on this record, and that does not mean it is not good, it just means that it is your job to find it and give it a spin.
