Listen "Ep #227: Australia's ANZAC Day Honours Those Who Fought and Died for Freedom"
Episode Synopsis
In this week's episode, I reflect on the importance of freedom, especially during this significant time around Anzac Day. I dive deep into why the ANZACs fought and why their sacrifices matter more than ever. I explore how freedom is under attack in many subtle and not-so-subtle ways: unreasonable laws, corrupt judges, government overspending, 15-minute cities, climate lies, bodily autonomy violations, and restrictions on free speech. I challenge you to think carefully about what freedom really means in your life and what happens when it is taken away.I explain why the ANZAC spirit — giving people a fair go — is fundamental to Australia’s culture, and how we must fight to preserve it. A "fair go" clearly relates to "fairness", and fairness is the word that most people use to describe "justice". I explore the challenges posed by questionable judicial systems that are failing to properly apply the rule of law leading to unjust, unfair, results. I also share reflections on Pope Francis’ problematic legacy and refer you to the important insights of Archbishop Carlo Vigano.I recommend a moving song, The Distant Call of Home, that ties beautifully into this theme of loss and courage. If we don’t fight for it, who will? And if you lose your freedom, I say that to a large degree your life is destroyed.
