Episode Synopsis

Max Whitlock is Team GB’s most successful Olympic gymnast, with five medals to his name. He first burst onto the Olympic scene at London 2012, where he won two bronze medals in the pommel horse and men’s team competition. Following further World, European and Commonwealth success, Whitlock created even more history at Rio 2016 where he won bronze in the all-around - Great Britain’s first medal in the event for 108 years. He followed this up by becoming the first British individual gold medallist with victory in both the floor and pommel horse events. In this week’s podcast, Max talks Radzi through the time he met his idol – Japanese gymnast Kōhei Uchimura, why he moved to Slovenia aged 11 and how his perspective on life has changed following the birth of his daughter Willow. The podcast, brought to you in association with the University of Hull, invites Olympic athletes to talk through the moments in their lives they feel have defined them as the athlete and person they are today.
