Listen "The Oxford Group’s 6 Basic Assumptions (part 4)"
Episode Synopsis
Send us a textI don’t know how I missed episode number 48! Maybe my old age of 81 (January 16), is catching up with me. Anyway, to my regular listeners, I’m sorry I missed it. Here it is now. This episode is about the fourth of the six basic assumptions that are found in the Oxford Group. It is as follows:4. The changed soul has direct access to God.So, rather way we notice that, at least in the Oxford Group, the person who has surrendered to God is called a “changed” person. In this particular list of the six basic assumptions, this change happens after, (and seemingly as a result of), the Confession in assumption number three. I must admit that at times I have questioned the positioning of the 12 steps. It seemed that steps number two and three would be better placed after step nine. At the very least I should think of third step should be after steps four and five. However, I have noticed that many people, when doing these steps, pick and choose the steps they want to work on next. In retrospect, I believe I did much the same in the many times I worked the steps, at least before I saw them as a life-and-death solution to my own problems. As far as having direct access to God, well, I believe that access has always existed from the time we took our first breath. Of course, I always speak of the spirit as trying to kind of knock on the person’s door to get recognition. So, maybe by saying that we always have direct contact with God would sort of mean that the door between us and our Spirit is always open. We no longer need to answer the call of our Spirit. However, what we do need is to remember that, after having said “yes” to God and surrendering, we must make an effort to listen for the direction of our Spirit.I will not allow that to happen!
