Small Markets Podcast Series from Irene Sotiropoulou of the THYME Project

Welcome to the Small Markets Podcast Series from Irene Sotiropoulou of the THYME project at the University of Hull. THYME is a joint research project connecting the University of York, Teesside University and the University of Hull with the aim of developing the bioeconomy for the benefit of local economy in the North East of England. This podcast series grew from Irene's research at the University of Hull and in cooperation with Prof. Pauline Deutz, questioning assumptions around bioeconomy and small scale producers and markets. Irene began by asking whether the local economy already had practices that could be sustainable in environmental and economic terms. From that question, the research developed with a focus on farmers markets in East Yorkshire including small, open-air markets. The research investigates in what ways and to what extent the local people are trying to use organic materials that are locally available in order to produce goods for local consumers and make a living through this production. This Small Markets Podcast was first broadcast by the Bite the Biscuit Boulevard Radio and the Bite the Biscuit Neighbourhood Market.
