Listen "28: Let's Try Using Intrinsic Motivation with Jessie Ginsburg"
Episode Synopsis
Do you ever feel like you are struggling to find ways to motivate your students? We all have our “go-to” reward systems, such as the treasure chest or token bag. But, what if you could find ways to intrinsically motivate your speech students - especially students who are on the autism spectrum? I'm so excited to chat with my guest in this episode - Jessie Ginsburg. Jessie inspires a new way of thinking about the SLP's role in working with young children with autism through her national publications, talks, and her top-ranked multidisciplinary clinic in Los Angeles. Today, Jessie shares with us how she fosters intrinsic motivation in her students by being flexible in her therapy sessions and allowing the student to have more control. After listening to Jessie's tips, I hope that you will feel inspired to put away the reward box and allow your students to guide you in what motivates them. A simple shift in our thought process as the SLP may help create great results.
