Listen "India's Confusing World Cup Build-up Baffles Former Cricketers | Sledging Room, Ep 62"
Episode Synopsis
India won the ODI series against the West Indies but their chaotic build-up to the 2023 World Cup has raised several more questions. Why were Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli rested when they were part of the squad? Why were India not playing close to their full strength with the World Cup just a few weeks away? And why was Yuzvendra Chahal not given a single game? How many of the bowlers who played in the ODIs against West Indies end up playing the World Cup? Is Suryakumar Yadav a certainty for the World Cup despite his horror run of form in one-day cricket? There are burning questions that the team management needs to address with the World Cup approaching rapidly. Rahul Dravid, the India coach, said he wanted to experiment and figure out the best possible combinations ahead of the showpiece event. Fair enough. But should these experiments not have taken place much before the World Cup? Isn't this the time to play your best combination. Yes, some of India's key players battled injuries but those injuries didn't happen overnight. The Indian team management was just as confused in the run-up to the T20 World Cup and nearly a year later, things don't seem a lot more different. Akshay Ramesh and Saurabh Kumar join Rajarshi Gupta in another heated debate on the latest episode of the Sledging Room. Tune in! Produced by Anna Priyadarshini Sound mix by Sachin Dwivedi
