Episode Synopsis

As we gather for the final episode of Season One, I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude to all the listeners and guests who have joined me on this incredible journey over the past 19 weeks. Each conversation, connection, and act of generosity shared has been deeply appreciated and cherished.
As we wrap up this season, I'm taking a pause to reflect on what went well and what areas need reimagining for Season Two. Rest assured, Season Two is already in the works and promises to be an even more refined edit of the epic journey we've embarked on together in Season One.
If you're missing our weekly meetings during this hiatus, fear not! You can still connect with me on a new podcast venture, "The Compassionate Athlete," where I'll be joined by my colleague in mental performance, Karissa Johnson. Together, we'll be delving deeper into the academic and personal aspects of compassion as a necessary paradigm shift for success and flourishing in sports, movement spaces, and life. Your presence and support in this new space would mean the world to me, and if you feel inclined, a 5-star review would be greatly appreciated.
But let's not delay any longer—onward to Episode 19! Today, I have the pleasure of being joined by Angela Potes, a therapist, researcher, and all-around expert in mindfulness and compassionate inquiry. Angela shares her remarkable journey—from embarking on a Ph.D. and a decade in research to facing serious mental health challenges and illness. Her story is a testament to resilience and power of using our challenges to help and heal others.
Angela beautifully illuminates how our bodies hold wisdom that is sometimes expressed through physical ailments, and how these ailments can guide us on our healing journey. She draws parallels between the healing journey and the human experience, emphasizing that healing and success are not mutually exclusive concepts. Sometimes, we heal anxiety while building a business; sometimes, our bodies experience pain while we heal others.
It's a profound and deeply authentic discussion that I believe will help normalize what personal growth truly looks like. It serves as a reminder that every professional is on their own journey to show up as the best version of themselves, so they can authentically serve others—which, when you think about it, is all of us.
Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for being here for this final episode. Your support and presence have meant everything.
Warm regards,
