Listen "#003 - Dr. David Blix - The Nature of Religion and Educating Young Men"
Episode Synopsis
What is religion? For all of history, really until the last few hundred years, humans have intentionally devoted themselves to what we would describe as religion. They've worshiped entities, developed creeds, philosophized, sacrificed, and more for as long as human memory lasts. Why do humans have religion, and what is it for?In this episode, Dr. David Blix, associate professor of religion at Wabash College helps us investigate these questions. Dr. Blix earned his Bachelor's at Wabash College in the 60s before receiving a PhD in Religion with a focus in comparative religion. He has since returned to teach at his Alma Mater for the last 20+ years, teaching courses on Islam, the religions of India, China, and Japan, myth and symbolism, and religion and the liberal arts.Additionally, he shares his experience as an educator and mentor of young men, discussing questions of how people best learn, generational differences he's seen while teaching, and much more.
