Dr. Andrew Karhan, a project director at San Diego State University’s Interwork Institute (SDSU), is a seasoned professional with nearly 30 years of experience in vocational rehabilitation, workforce development, mental health, developmental disabilities, and transition.
His leadership is evident in his current roles as the Project Director of the Center for Advancing Policy on Employment for Youth and the New York Equitable Transition Model Demonstration grants, funded by the U.S. Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP) for SDSU and various other state projects. He has successfully administered employment services programs for individuals with disabilities in both Pennsylvania and New York, and provided technical assistance on the implementation of best practices in employment, youth, and transition services across the U.S. His extensive experience and expertise were crucial in the development and implementation of the New York Employment Services System (NYESS), the administration of the State’s Administrative Employment Network under the Social Security Administration’s Ticket to Work program, the oversight and implementation of New York State’s Promoting the Readiness of Minors in Supplemental Security Income (PROMISE) project, and the development of a state-wide work incentives navigator system.
Dr. Karhan's confidence in the power of employment to transform lives is a testament to his career-long commitment to ensuring all people with disabilities can engage in meaningful, competitive, integrated employment in their communities.
