Listen "Search and Rescue NZ WEB Episode 4"
Episode Synopsis
A typical rescue today is aided by GPS, personal location beacons, powerful and agile helicopters and LandSAR rescuers, most of them volunteers who are highly trained and well equipped. But it wasn’t always so. In the 1960s, rescuers usually came from tramping clubs and could be out in the field for days, providing their own gear - it was all very "number 8 wire".
