Episode Synopsis

Uncle Lex Dadd is a Warmuli man and senior Darug custodian. He has shared culture for over 20 years as Burangilli, and is now Cultural Consultant of the Blue Mountains Aboriginal Cultural Resource Centre. He is also an Adjunct Fellow at the Macquarie University’s Discipline of Geography & Planning, where he leads the Yanama budyari gumada research collective. His show ‘Budyari baya - Good Talk’ airs on Fridays from 2-4pm on 89.1FM Radio Blue Mountains.  In this episode of Rights, Rorts and Rants, he talks with Deb Smith and Fran Dyson and is joined by Lithgow based singer/songwriter Sam Williams (aka Sam Bucca), who won 3rd prize in last years "Sing it Say it: Activist Fest Talent Quest" (sponsored by Blue Mountains Unions and Community and Retro Rehash). In 2018 Sam was an organiser for  ‘Resilience2018’ - a mental health festival in Lithgow from which the album ‘Out of the Dark’ – was released, featuring Sam's powerful song "Understand". As you will hear, Sam's music reflects his own and indigenous struggles with invasion, occupation and disenfranchisment, as well as many of the issues that affect Australia's youth, such as mental health, unemployment, climate change, and current politics.  His recordings can be found on Bandcamp, Triple j unearthed, and Spotify.
