Listen " Save our CSIRO "

Episode Synopsis

The CSIRO plans to cut another 350 research jobs, on top of the 800 jobs already lost in the past 18 months, on top of people in non-permanent roles whose contracts won't be renewed. Presenter Nick Franklin interviewed Susan Tonks, Secretary CSIRO Staff Association which represents CSIRO union members and is affiliated with the CPSU (Commonwealth Public Service Union). The interview was followed by some commentary by Nick Franklin and Presenter Debra Smith noting a BMUC letter of concern about the job cuts had gone to to Federal Member for Macquarie, Susan Templeman and the relevant minister Tim Ayres. Take action! There is a petition running to save CSIRO on Senator David Pocock's website. Sign+the+petition: +Save+Our+CSIRO: +https://www.davidpocock.com.au/save_our_csiro As there is a Parliamentary Inquiry into the CSIRO job cuts in March 2026 the numbers of people who sign a petition will be very important.Note: We apologise that there are some issues with the sound quality but the importance of the issue discussed was such that it was worth creating a podcast and reaching a wider audience.
