Listen "Episode 129: Controversial truths about progress"
Episode Synopsis
Coming back from a win at a competition this weekend, I thought I'd share some thoughts from an 18 year coach. In this episode, I tackle four common fitness myths (that may be controversial) that might be holding you back and share actionable tips to improve your performance:You Don’t Need to Workout 6-7 Days a WeekOvertraining doesn’t equal better results. By focusing on 3-4 well-structured workouts a week, combined with intensity and proper recovery, you can see greater progress without the risk of burnout or injury. Rest isn’t a luxury—it’s part of the program.Open Gym Isn’t the Key to SuccessYou don’t need endless hours of Open Gym to improve. Structured, coach-led classes are designed to help you progress, especially when you prioritize technique and effort over volume. For targeted improvements, like mastering a movement, a personal training session is far more effective than going at it solo.Nutrition Doesn’t Have to Be PerfectForget the all-or-nothing mindset. Consistency matters more than perfection. By sticking to one simple habit—like not eating after 7 PM—you can see significant results, as I did when I dropped 14 pounds in 30 days. Start small, be consistent, and watch your results build over time. What You Do Outside the Gym Matters Just as MuchTraining hard isn’t enough if you’re neglecting the basics: mobility, sleep, hydration, and stress management. Tight hips? Poor sleep? Chronic dehydration? These are performance killers. Focus on improving your lifestyle habits, and your results inside the gym will skyrocket.Takeaway: Progress isn’t about doing more—it’s about doing better. Nail the fundamentals, stay consistent, and remember: fitness is a journey, not a race.As always, please like, share, and subscribe. If you would like some help, please reach out!
