Episode Synopsis

1- Recap of last week’s discussion about making tea on Shabbos (particularly in a Kli Shlishi, those that are lenient (Rav Moshe and others) and the position of the Aruch HaShulchan and seemingly the position of the Mishna Berurah that it is prohibited)2- Coffee on Shabbos:- introduction regarding whether or not the first cup poured has the status of the a Kli Rishon or a Kli Sheini (since it’s a direct stream from a Kli Rishon) based on speculation into the process the Chazon Ish used in making tea and the Rashi in the Sugya of the Chamei Tiveria or the stringency of the Chayei Adam of Yad Nichnas- introduction regarding salt (raw salt vs salt that has already been cooked). - Status of salt whether or not it’s considereda liquid or a solid based on the fact that it dissolves and the position of the Machatzis HaShekel that it’s judged by what the status is now, not what it will become, based on the Shulchan Aruch regarding fat. - Position of the Mishna Berurah that is stringent regarding salt but is lenient by fat. - Difference between fat and salt in regards to the stages in which they dissolve (whether simultaneously or in steps), and the ramifications of its status as a liquid or a solid. - Instant coffee production (liquid that is dehydrated and then crystallized, without any uncooked grinds).- Various considerations for instant coffee including: the fact that it’s בישול אחר אפייה אחר בישול; it may have the status of salt since it instantly dissolves and can therefore have the status of a liquid; potential issue of Nolad (solid to liquid- which would not make a difference how many cups you use; why that issue would not apply to salt); dyeing foods (water into the coffee vs. coffee into the water); consideration for the above Chaozon Ish.- Some of the above factors for why it is best practice to utilize a Kli Shlishi.
