Pioneers of Country October 11, 2014

With the passing of Loretta Lynn on October 4, 2022 I was reminded of when we saw her in concert in the mid 1980's. I remember what a beautiful pure voice she had. She needed little or no instrumentation. Her voice dominated the theater. 

We played Loretta's recordings countless times over the years. As was the case on October 11, 2014. After the show opening we start off with Loretta and “Fist City”

A variety of great Pioneers are presented in this mid-Autumn October broadcast. 

Our journey begins with Loretta Lynn, and then one from Lefty Frizzell. 

Dave gives a rundown of this weekend's The Grand Ole Opry's 89th anniversary show. 

Next is George Jones, Ladd Dunham, Jerry Reed, and Dottie West - Oct 11th was Dottie's birthday anniversary, and Dave goes into his rant about how Dottie should be inducted into The Country Music Hall of Fame NOTE: This became a reality 4 years later in 2018. 

Dave talks about his recent, albeit late arrival to Facebook. Next is Eddy Arnold – I Want To Play House With You. 

Also born on October 11th is Gene Watson. Dave plays “Got No Reason Now For Going Home”. 

More drinking songs with Garth Brooks and “Two Pina Coladas”. Next is Six String Stu singing “Smoke Rings in the Dark”. 

Faron Young is next with "Just Married". Homer and Jethro sing “I've Got Tears In My Ears”. Jerry Lee Lewis sings “Thirty-Nine And Holding”. 

We close out the first hour with Hank Williams Sr. and “Lovesick Blues” .

The second hour is just as good as the first as Dave breaks out the “Big Guns”. Listen and I'm sure you will agree. 

They were forgotten by The Country Music Industry, Country Radio, and even The Grand Ole Opry – Pioneers of Country proudly remember those artists, and the music they made popular.
