Listen "Romans 2 - Dangers of Self Righteousness"
Episode Synopsis
This morning, Pastor Clarke begins Chapter 2 of Romans. Last week we studied in Chapter 1 the detail of how far we can go into deep sinful and perverse depravity. When we read about the extreme degrees of sin, we become uncomfortable because we may never have fallen that deeply into certain kinds of sin. Not understanding that in spite of avoiding certain kinds of sin, we are still prone and accountable/guilty before God for the sins we do commit.
In Chapter 2, Paul describes the dangers of thinking we’re better than others because we avoid certain kinds of sin. This attitude is an unrighteous judgment that causes the sin of self-righteousness and unfair judging of others. Paul gets to the heart of the matter of our hearts in that in judging others, we are blind to the fact that we are also guilty of our own sin before God.
