Hi and welcome to Let’s Word Up! Each day we post a word of the day to help you improve your English language skills.

Today’s word of the day is consider.

Consider is a doing word therefore it is a verb.

Consider has six definitions. Firstly it is to think deeply about something, usually when making a decision. Secondly it is to think about and be drawn towards a course of action. Thirdly it is to believe to be. Fourthly it is to regard someone or something to have a specific quality. Fifthly it is to take something into account when making a judgement. Lastly it is look attentively at something.

An example of the word consider used in a sentence would be:

We'll need to consider all possibilities before we decide on a plan.

She might consider quitting her job if she has the opportunity to follow her dreams.

If they consider them to be dangerous then they will take action to keep everyone safe.

He'll be in trouble if they consider him irresponsible.

Let's consider the rules before we do anything.

Or, She went into the basement to consider the jewels in her safe, marvelling at their beauty.

Synonyms: contemplate, ponder, deem, heed, observe.

Antonyms: ignore, dismiss, forget, neglect, omit.
