Listen "Let's re-assess: work less and learn more"
Episode Synopsis
Assessments, assessments, assessments. If you’re a practitioner, you’ll know that these can feel like a burden. But what if there was a way to reduce staff workload whilst improving learner grades? Introducing the DIRT and TOES method – an assessment approach that involves both peer-to-peer feedback and independent reflection. As you’ll hear in this episode, it has worked wonders for staff and learners at Derby College. So, do join us as Linzi Smithies, Advanced Practitioner in Land-based Animal Science and Equine, tells us all about this method and the impact it has made at the college. Who is Linzi Smithies? “I have one of the best roles in education, having the ability to enter sessions, see the fabulous teaching that is being done within the department and share best practise” Linzi Smithies is an advanced practitioner in the land-based team at Derby College Group who leads on supporting staff and professional development within teaching and learning. She has taken a particular interest in assessment and is always looking for ways to lighten the load, helping staff to better use their time and delivering stronger outcomes for students.
