Listen "Murphy grants 48 more 'second chance' pardons in ongoing criminal justice reform effort"
Episode Synopsis
New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy announced an additional 19 commutations and 29 pardons in his ongoing efforts at criminal justice reform.
This latest round of clemency came with an assist from Princeton University. Last year, more than 50 students studied the criteria for pardons announced by Murphy and helped identify these clemency candidates, including 12 convicted murderers whose sentences were commuted.
Murphy's criteria include a focus on non-violent offenders with long histories of good conduct, victims of domestic violence, and those serving unusually harsh sentences.
