Sen. John Fetterman says he should have ended his campaign after he suffered a stroke and the depression that followed.

The Pennsylvania Democrat writes in his new memoir: "My polling was so good at the time that I decided to keep going, still confident I could show voters there was little impairment. ... In hindsight, I should have quit."

The Free Press published excerpts of the book ahead of its release.

Fetterman had a stroke just days before he won the primary in 2022. He defeated Republican Mehmet Oz in the general election.

He details his struggle with depression, saying he was suicidal for months and moved in with his parents to reduce the strain on his wife and kids. Fetterman said a "therapist-in-training" told him "children need their daddy" -- those words, he said, became motivation for him to get better and be better.

"Unfettered" is out today.
