Listen "Cherry Hill students may need permission to check out certain books from school libraries"
Episode Synopsis
Kids in Cherry Hill may need a parent's permission before they're allowed to check out certain books from their school libraries.
A memo obtained by the Inquirer from the district's director of curriculum and instruction says "some materials may contain sensitive content that is not suitable for all age groups." It includes a permission slip to be filled out by the librarian and signed by a parent or guardian before the student can check out the book. The memo says district media specialists must thoroughly review every book's content for "themes, language, and any potentially sensitive topics."
Cherry Hill Schools Superintendent Kwame Morton told the Inquirer the memo has been taken "completely out of context." He said, "We don't ban books in the district."
