As part of the CHY4U World History unit on African Resistance movements, Gr 12 student Dani Taylor takes us on a journey to Rwanda to examine the legacy of Grégoire Kayibanda, the nation's first elected president and a central figure in its independence from Belgium. From his pivotal role in spearheading the "Hutu Revolution" and challenging the existing Tutsi monarchy, to his leadership of the Parmehutu party, Kayibanda's rise to power irrevocably altered the socio-political landscape of Rwanda. Join us as we delve into the complex dynamics of his independence efforts, the establishment of the First Republic, and the foundational years that would define Rwanda's post-colonial trajectory. T
