In her impatience, Sarai told Abram to have a child with Hagar, thinking that maybe this was how God’s promise would come true. Abram agreed, and Hagar became pregnant. But once Hagar realized she was carrying a baby and Sarai wasn’t, she began to look down on her mistress. This caused tension and jealousy between the two women, and Sarai became angry and bitter.Sarai complained to Abram about the situation, even though it was her idea. Abram didn’t want to get in the middle of their conflict, so he told Sarai she could do whatever she wanted with Hagar.
