Genesis 14 really opened my eyes. Abram didn’t just fight a battle — he showed us that real faith also means restraint. Sometimes, it’s better to wait on God instead of taking the first thing offered. This chapter teaches us that faith isn’t just about action it’s about integrity, patience, and trusting God to provide in His time.It begins with a war. Four kings from the east unite and go to battle against five kings in the land of Canaan. Cities are destroyed, people are captured, and Lot — Abram’s nephew gets swept up in it all. When Abram hears that Lot has been taken, he doesn’t hesitate. He gathers 318 of his trained men and pursues the enemy. This shows us the first part of what faith looks like in action: faith doesn’t sit back. Abram could have said, “That’s not my problem,” but instead, he stepped up. He didn’t wait for someone else to do the rescuing — he believed that God would give him victory. Abram’s faith wasn’t about talk; it was about obedience and courage. He trusted that if God called him to do something, God would equip him to win. So Abram attacks at night, surprises the kings, and rescues Lot, his family, and all the goods that were taken. Through this victory, Abram shows that real faith takes movement but also that God fights for those who move in obedience. After the battle, something special happens. A man named Melchizedek, king of Salem and priest of God Most High, meets Abram and blesses him. Abram responds by giving him a tenth of everything.This act of giving is one of the first signs of tithing in the Bible. It wasn’t about money or possessions it was about gratitude. Abram knew who had truly given him the victory. When we experience success, the first thing we should do is thank God.
