“I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me, you can do nothing.” - John 15:5 Spiritual effectiveness comes from spiritual fruitfulness. Effectivity in prayer and winning the lost for Christ comes from bearing much fruit of godliness. These come from staying connected to Christ. No one remains ungodly or unkind, dishonest, arrogant, self-centered, envious, and doubtful who is connected to Jesus. But will indeed bear much fruit of life. The Lord made this clear—a genuine believer's fruitfulness comes from being connected to Him and His teachings. Apart from Him and His word, we are fruitless, especially in His work.  Remain connected to Jesus and His word for spiritual fruitfulness and effectivity. At the Sudan Interior Mission Kijabe Medical Center, SIM medical missionaries Bob and Marion Bowers recently treated a young man with a paralyzing snake bite. They saw him live long enough to accept Christ as his Savior. In many Third World countries, snake bites are common--and fatal. For four days, the young man remained unconscious. Under normal circumstances, he would have died the day of the snake bite. But on the fifth day, he miraculously woke up. That afternoon, a group of students from Moffat Bible College came to the hospital to share the gospel with the patients. After hearing the words of truth, the man accepted Christ as his savior. At midnight, he had a cardiac arrest and died.  The missionaries and the group of students were spiritually fruitful and effective. Undeniably, true faith will result in obedience to God’s word—love, understanding, truthfulness, spiritual strength, kindness, purity, meaning, direction, and power in prayer and sharing the good news will characterize our lives. Remain in Jesus' love, stay in the soundness of the gospel through active obedience to His word. Jesus is your most important connection in life. He is the eternal life. He can move people's hearts. He can bless the works of your hands.  What aspect of your character needs His pruning? What evidence of change makes you effective in your life of faith? May you continue and hold on to the Lord’s word so you may bear much fruit of godly character and become more effective. Amen.
