The church at Sardis started well.  They had a history of faithfulness to the things of God.  Rather than staying vigilant and true the Word of God, they became a dead church as they lived off the security of the past and allowed for compromise in the present.  The church is facing a similar challenge like Sardis.  May we continue to be faithful to the Lord and live according to being light in the darkness, spending time with Him daily so we can love the people around us while holding fast to the truth of His Word.
