Listen "Christianity is Not... EP. 179"
Episode Synopsis
Welcome back, and thanks for joining me for today’s discussion. I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how
misunderstood Christianity often is in today’s world. It seems like everywhere you turn, you run into a version of Christianity that’s been twisted, misrepresented, or used for personal gain. This isn’t a new problem, of course, but it’s one we need to address head-on. That’s what we’ll dive into today, the purpose of Christianity, and what it is not.
Now, to be clear, Christianity is not about competition. It’s not a platform for individuals or groups to assert moral superiority or serve personal agendas. You’ve probably seen it, the virtue signaling, the cliques, the folks who treat their faith like a contest to outdo others. But when this happens, it opens the door for something darker to slip in. And I think we all know who I’m talking about. When we lose sight of the true purpose, Satan gains ground. That’s why understanding what Christianity
truly is becomes even more crucial.
The heart of today’s message is simple, but powerful: Christianity is about knowing God. Not just knowing about Him, but really knowing Him. John 17:3 gives us this beautiful definition of eternal life, “That they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.” This isn’t about ticking off religious checkboxes or climbing some spiritual ladder.
It’s about relationship, a deep, intimate knowledge of God that transforms our hearts and lives.
As we dive deeper into this lesson, we’ll explore how that purpose translates into our everyday lives. Christianity isn’t a competitive sport, it’s not a social club, and it’s definitely not a way to score points by showing how “righteous” we are compared to others. It’s about something much deeper. It’s about working out our own salvation with humility, striving for seamless unity, and living in a way that reflects Christ’s love and truth.
So, as we go through today’s discussion, I want you to think about where you stand in this journey of knowing God. Are you truly seeking Him, or are you caught up in distractions that have nothing to do with what Christ called us to be? This is a heart check for all of us. Let’s explore together.
