Listen "Divination as a means of self-knowledge"
Episode Synopsis
In this experimental radio project, our group seeks to explore means of divination by combining traditional Chinese fortune-telling methods and Western Tarot reading methods. The Chinese method reflects a rich history and philosophical depth, by using ancient chinese symbols written on small circular pieces of wood tokens that are thrown and then associated with a specific passage and poem written in Ancient Chinese. Meanwhile the Tarot represents a global perspective of the practices of divination. To explore these methods, our group created a protocol, which is the following:1) One person (Yuwen, Haoran,Mingwang or Omari) asks a question of their choice;2) One person (Rouyu) acts as the Diviner, conducting the reading of cards or tokens;3) Once the reading is done, others from the group may give their own perspectives of what the result may be.Artistic references:Laurie Anderson, Janet Cardiff, Tania Bruguera.Illustrated Lingqi Jing (Book of the Spirit Chess), originally authored by Dongfang Shuo (Han Dynasty), edited by Xu Yiping, collated by Cheng Zihe, Hualing Publishing House, Beijing, 2009.by Rouyu,Yuwen, Haoran, Omari & Mingwang Hosted on Acast.
