On Country Today we’re going to get to know the next President of the National Farmers Federation. As of this afternoon’s NFF Council meeting, Queensland farmer Hamish McIntyre will take over from David Jochinke as the leader of the country’s peak farm lobby group. You may have heard of asparagopsis, the seaweed which has the potential to reduce methane emissions in cattle, in fact just a handful of seaweed each day can cut methane emissions by over 80%. Immersion Group is harvesting asparagopsis in a highly productive onshore system, and exporting the bulk of their production to Japan. Now, they're expanding into the Australian dairy and beef sectors. Recent weather swept strong winds across Victoria, with gusts exceeding 100 km/h in parts of the state. While northern areas weren’t as severely affected as the south, towns like Koondrook and nearby Barham still experienced winds topping 75 km/h. Agronomist Scott Burger tells us about the impact of this week's weather on local crops.
