Episode Synopsis

In this Segment from KGVY Community Radio, Host Guy Atchley welcomes Tammy Riemath, Service Center Coordinator for the Salvation Army Southwest Division in Green Valley. Tammy highlights the wide range of holiday programs already in motion, including the annual Thanksgiving Luncheon and Christmas Eve Luncheon, both held from 12–2 PM at the West Center. She expresses deep gratitude to the community for the donations that make these cherished gatherings possible.Tammy also gives an update on the iconic Red Kettle Bell Ringing Campaign, sharing that Green Valley residents have once again stepped up. Bell ringers will be stationed at Safeway, Walmart, Walgreens, and Fry’s, with additional opportunities to give through the “mini kettles” placed at local businesses such as Posada Java, Home Instead, St. Francis, The White Elephant, and more. She emphasizes that every dollar donated locally stays right here, supporting families in Green Valley, Sahuarita, and Madera—all helping with meals, utilities, emergency aid, and holiday programs.Tammy also breaks down how the beloved Angel Tree Program works this year. Trees and tags can be found at Walmart, Posada Java, Valle Verde Rotary, St. Francis Church, and other partner locations. Community members pick a tag and purchase a gift for a child, but leave it unwrapped. For 2025, the Salvation Army is introducing a more personalized touch: parents will “shop” from sorted gifts—organized by age and gender—allowing them to choose something meaningful for their child in a toy-store style setting. Finally, Tammy puts out a call for volunteers to help sort, organize, and prepare gifts ahead of distribution days on December 17, 18, and 19. She invites anyone interested to stop by the office at 555 N. La Cañada or call 520-625-3888. Closing the show, Tammy shares heartfelt gratitude for the overwhelming kindness and generosity Green Valley shows each year—reminding listeners how powerful it is when a community comes together.
