Episode Synopsis

This week on In The Know on KGVY AM/FM, Andy Taylor welcomes back Debbie Kenyon, President of the Green Valley Council (GVC), for an in-depth update on the civic issues, forums, and initiatives shaping the Green Valley community. Debbie begins by explaining the essential role the GVC plays as the civic voice for more than 200 homeowner associations, representing residents at the county and state levels. Because Green Valley is unincorporated and has no mayor or city council, the GVC serves as the communication bridge between Pima County and homeowners—helping ensure safety, legislation, and local planning remain aligned with community needs.Debbie previewed several important upcoming public forums, starting with the Drainage Way Forum on December 4th. With 29 drainage ways running through Green Valley, proper maintenance is crucial for controlling water flow, preventing erosion, limiting invasive species, and reducing mosquito issues. The forum will feature Regional Flood Control experts sharing what HOAs must know to properly manage these areas. She also highlighted the major Assessor’s Forum coming up on January 8, 2026, focused on deed and mortgage fraud prevention—a growing concern for homeowners with paid-off homes or properties held in trusts. Residents can already sign up and are urged to activate fraud alert notifications through the county recorder to protect themselves.Looking further ahead, Debbie discussed additional community events including the First Responders Fair on March 14th at Historic Canoa Ranch, followed by the 4th Annual Monsoon Madness on the first Thursday in June. She also shared insights from a recent Environmental Committee meeting featuring TEP, Trico, Southwest Gas, and local water representatives. Key updates included Trico’s move into fiber-optic internet service and ongoing regional planning to improve resiliency during potential catastrophic power disruptions.Debbie closed with updates on major ongoing initiatives such as buffelgrass mitigation, wildfire-zone insurance challenges, and tracking state-level decisions that may impact Green Valley homeowners. She emphasized the strength of the GVC’s executive committee, the dedication of staff, and the council’s commitment to supporting residents.
