Wei Wuxian is caught helping the other students cheat and is sent to the library pavilion to copy rules as punishment. Lan Wangji is sent to supervise him and make sure he doesn't cheat. Wei Wuxian gets bored easily and tries to bother Lan Wangji, but he is ignored. Finally, Wei Wuxian pulls a prank on Lan Wangji and swaps out his book with a book of pornography! Lan Wangji is enraged and tears the book into pieces before shouting “get lost!” The next day they run into Lan Xichen who tells them about a situation of water ghouls nearby. Wei Wuxian and Jiang Cheng volunteer to help. During the hunt, they discover that the water ghouls are actually a waterborne abyss sent by the Wen Clan.
