Wei Wuxian punishes himself for insulting Jin Ling and decides to leave the mountain so that he doesn't get in the way of Jin Ling’s nightunt. But then he realizes that the creature is more dangerous than everyone expected. He rushes to the shrine of the heavenly maiden, just as it comes to life and begins to devour the cultivators’ souls. Wei Wuxian is forced to summon a ghost to fight against the statue, and ends up summoning the feared ghost general Wen Ning. Jiang Cheng suspects him of being possessed by the ghost of Wei Wuxian and strikes him with Zidian, but nothing happens.
