Qin Su receives a letter from a mysterious person that reveals a secret about Jin Guangyao so sickening that she becomes ill and can’t stand the sight of him. Jin Guangyao paralyzes her and brings her to a secret chamber. Wei Wuxian follows them inside, in a paperman body, and discovers that Jin Guangyao has kept all his old manuscripts as war prizes. He also discovered the sealed head of Nie Mingjue, which drags him into a forced empathy spell. In Nie Mingjue’s memories, he meets Jin Guangyao when he was Meng Yao. Nie Mingjue helps Meng Yao with a letter of recommendation so that he can join the Jin Clan during the sunshot campaign. But Meng Yao is ignored by his father, and is caught by Nie Mingjue murdering his superior.
