Listen "Turnaround Time"
Episode Synopsis
What is God wanting to TURN AROUND in your life to make room for a fresh start?- The turnaround – in this story the plans of Haman (the world) become totally disrupted and turned upside down in order to bring freedom for God’s people. Mordecai eventually takes the place Haman had built for himself- It’s only possible to turn things around when you can acknowledge that they need to change- Some examples: your health, your financial management, your schedule, your family relationships, your marriage, your friendship group, your business- No shame, just acknowledging there are things to turn around and asking God to help you do so- God is in the business of turning things around (he uses the foolish things to confound the wise), just further confirmation that YOU WERE MADE FOR THIS- 1 Corinthians 1:26-31 MSG – Take a good look, friends, at who you were when you got called into this life. I don’t see many of “the brightest and the best” among you, not many influential, not many from high-society families. Isn’t it obvious that God deliberately chose men and women that the culture overlooks and exploits and abuses, chose these “nobodies” to expose the hollow pretensions of the “somebodies”? That makes it quite clear that none of you can get by with blowing your own horn before God. Everything we have – right thinking and right living, a clean slate and a FRESH START – comes from God by way of Jesus Christ. What’s the turnaround timeline? - God’s timing is usually not OUR timing- What’s the turnaround time on your fresh start? Your breakthrough? The pursuit of your big dream?- What’s the turnaround time for that?- God’s ways are not our ways, we need to TRUST that He will turn things around when it’s best for us, He has the ultimate mountain top perspective which we can’t see- Isaiah 55:8-9 NLT – “My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.”- Be patient, we have to believe God is always good and always working things for good in order to see the upside down take place in our fresh startWhat does a TURNAROUND look like?- Use elements from the Esther story- Always involves community – Mordecai was able to use the influence he had in his community to gather them together to work toward their own freedom- Always involves asking for help – Mordecai asked for help from Esther for the sake of the cause – we must never be timid to ask for help when it serves the cause of seeing oppressed people set free and building the local church- Always involves taking a next step without necessarily knowing what the step after that will be – Esther had to be bold and brave enough to ask for an audience with the king, knowing what had happened to the last queen who had not followed the custom of the kingdom and with many variable responses to that request at play- Always involves saying YES to Jesus
