Episode Synopsis "Episode 194 - 2 Degrees Of Separation - Elvis Costello w/Jeff Axelrod"
There are a few unique things about this week's hero, Elvis Costello. First off, his voice is unmistakable in pop music. Nobody else has that expressive but urgent quality that informs his vocal performances and has helped make songs like "(What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love & Understanding" such monumental achievements. Secondly, he's the most stylistically diverse artist this side of David Bowie. He's tackled every genre from punk and reggae to classical and jazz. Over the years, Elvis has worked with some of the best musicians, producers and songwriters on Earth. This "Elvis-verse" or the Elvis Costello Universe is the subject of today's podcast. Ben is joined by EC fan and aspiring rock historian Jeff Axelrod to bring you a 2nd volume of our "This Is Your Life" style show, and this week we're exploring the people orbiting the musical universe of our hero, Elvis. Put on your knowledge bib, your cup will runneth over. Jeff and Ben did the "2 Degrees" treatment for Madonna back in Season 3.
