Listen "Ep 18: Relationship Coach & Parenthood Mentor; Tully O’Connor"
Episode Synopsis
This week I sat down with Tully O’Connor, a relationship coach, retreat facilitator, and podcast host for parents (especially dads) navigating the wild edges of parenthood. Tully and I completed his Liberating Love mentorship together last year while I was pregnant with Sage, and it’s a journey I believe every couple should experience before (and after) becoming parents.
We explored why intimate relationships can be both our biggest sources of healing and our deepest pain, how most of us were never taught how to communicate, and why resentment often stacks like bricks until we’ve unknowingly built a wall between each other. Tully spoke about the nervous system responses behind shutdowns, defensiveness and passive communication, and how true connection starts with knowing yourself and softening into safety.
We talked about what changes after kids arrive when sex and intimacy feel different, when women feel touched out and men feel shut out, and why expecting things to go “back to normal” sets couples up to fail. He shares ways to reconnect without rushing, what emotional safety really looks like, and why curiosity, presence and grace are some of the most underrated tools in relationship repair.
Whether you're preparing for kids, feeling disconnected after birth, or navigating triggers your child brings up in you, this episode is a grounding reminder: your relationship is worth investing in. And healing doesn't come from getting it perfect, it comes from getting more honest.
